Issue:
A large, Fortune 500 client in the defense sector wanted to migrate an existing PC-based logistics system to be web-enabled. The system tracks the process of manufacturing products that are eventually shipped to customers worldwide. The application was intended to be work flow (Work Order) driven, allowing the client to order and manage parts and labor, assign and track work orders, inventory assets, and manage overall programs, projects, and cost. With users in multiple states and facilities using the system, the existing software did not allow coordination and sharing of information between different locations. The application also lacked critical functionality including audit trails, reporting and other features that end-users required to be more successful in their work.
Intellect's Solution:
Intellect deployed a team of software engineers that were part of a 10-person team and successfully converted an existing system that was Microsoft Access-based and developed a new system based on Microsoft's .NET platform. The team, consisting of software engineers, software quality assurance professionals, an architect, project manager and technical writer, did a full system conversion and deployment. This consisted of requirements gathering, architecting and developing the new web application, testing, documentation and deployment.
The new web-based solution now allows the client to manage and track their business operations across different departments and geographic boundaries. Additionally, new functionality was built into the application to automate critical business process that the old system lacked. The new application implemented audit trails to track user activity throughout the system, allows management to print ad hoc reports, and provides role-based authorization features that previously did not exist.
Result:
With the help of Intellect, the client successfully deployed a solution that was web-based, allowing users to access the system from any location, more closely monitor their supply chain by providing the client with real-time information for decision making, and adds additional features that aid them in running their logistics operation more efficiently.
