Issue:

West Tampa Glass, a manufacturer of glass windows to the commercial market, was hit with a computer virus that caused a catastrophic system 'crash' that effectively shut down the company's computer network. Adding to that pain was the fact that the back-up system that was in place was not effective and the company lost months worth of data from every department, including accounting, HR/payroll and customer data. Through the course of several months that followed, both an independent consultant as well as a systems integration firm were brought in to remedy the problem. After time and billing that went far beyond (five times) the initial estimate, Intellect was called in to assist.

Intellect's Solution:

Replacing the failed attempts of three previous consultants, Intellect re-engineered the company's entire network infrastructure. Intellect's engineers re-installed a new server farm, including file servers and Microsoft Exchange e-mail servers. An enterprise-wide Symantec anti-virus solution was implemented to prevent future network intrusion and corruption. Further, a Dell-based optical media solution was installed for backup and recovery, preventing future loss of critical business data. Based on the needs of West Tampa, other solutions that were implemented included a wireless network for the use of field-based employees when they are in the home office, as well as a VPN solution that allows executives remote access to the network, when physically not in the office.

The new web-based solution now allows the client to manage and track their business operations across different departments and geographic boundaries. Additionally, new functionality was built into the application to automate critical business process that the old system lacked. The new application implemented audit trails to track user activity throughout the system, allows management to print ad hoc reports, and provides role-based authorization features that previously did not exist.

Result:

West Tampa's network was rebuilt and Intellect "delivered on everything promised", according to Carrie Condon, Vice President at the company. In less than one month, and at a fraction of the cost of previous consultants, Intellect created a stable network environment, including mail, virus protection, back-up systems for disaster recovery and more. Since Intellect provided these services, West Tampa's network has been up and running with 99.9% uptime and reliability. Intellect continues to provide routine monthly maintenance to West Tampa Glass as their 'outsourced' IT provider.
